Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Core in Trauma and Orthopaedics. This post is available to commence as soon as possible until 04 August 2026.

As the regional referral centre and Level 1 Major Trauma Centre, we offer a full range of adult and paediatric elective and trauma services. We are a busy unit, well-supported with Nurse Practitioners and Orthogeriatricians with many research and audit opportunities. Previous fellows have achieved a high conversion rate to CT and Specialist Training programmes. 

This post may be suitable for those wishing to undertake an “F3” role. Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.  

Main duties of the job

This role will work as part of the Trauma & Orthopaedic surgical team here at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role will consist of a mixture of ward based and emergency care. There will be opportunities for the post holder to participate in clinics and attend theatre alongside senior colleagues. 

In order to be considered for this role applicants must have completed a foundation programme or equivalent and have at least 12 months experience employed by the NHS.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation Competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment
  • Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures
  • At least 4 months NHS experience in a relevant surgical specialty
  • Able to deal with general emergency admissions (on-call)
  • Basic surgical skills and patient care
  • Competence in pre-operative and postoperative management of general surgical patients
  • Agreement that essential longlisting criteria met: MBBS, 12 months NHS experience
