Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Core in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This post is available to commence from 05 August 2026 until 03 August 2027.
Main duties of the job
This position would be ideal for a Resident Doctor ready to apply for ST3 positions.
All previous Fellows have gone on to be appointed at ST3 level at national interviews.
You will work directly under the supervision of 7 Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeons in the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit (OTU). Your day to day work will involve the care of the Orthopaedic Trauma Unit polytrauma patients. You will have a minimum of 2 days in theatre, and a day in fracture clinic.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In order to be considered for the above position applicants must have evidence of achievement of Foundation Competencies with specific eligibility criteria available in the person specification for the post and hold full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council at the point of application.
Applicants must also demonstrate an ability to communicate in English in a clinical environment.
You will be expected to have at least 1 national presentation and 1 publication by the end of your time in post. The previous Fellows have prepared and submitted 3 academic articles whilst in post. Applicants must have their MRCS, and ATLS, and be in a position to apply for registrar level posts.

Essential criteria
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation Competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment
- Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures
- Able to deal with general emergency admissions (on-call)
- Basic surgical skills and patient care
- Competence in pre-operative and postoperative management of general surgical patients
- Agreement that essential longlisting criteria met: 12 months, NHS experience MBBS, full MRCS, ATLS, CCrISP
- General Medical Council at time of application
