Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior, experienced, operational manager to further develop their strategic thinking and leadership skills as the Operations Director (OD) for the Adult and Specialists Mental Health Clinical Directorate at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT), working directly with the Chief Operating Officer. 

Main duties of the job

This role is required to drive strategic developments in support of the NHS Long Term Plan, energise planned transformative changes for effective and efficient service delivery, and ensure that our staff are well supported to provide personalised care centred around our service users.

With significant existing senior management experience in a complex healthcare setting, the successful candidate will need a track record of delivering high quality clinical services, leading and managing service redesign and performance management.

We're looking for someone who demonstrates attention to detail, is adaptable, committed to the delivery of high quality care and is an active team player, politically astute and able to communicate at all levels. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be accountable for the performance management of ASMH.

Be responsible for the development and delivery of operational delivery plans within the Directorate.

Work alongside clinicians, engaging widely with a range of internal and external stakeholders to deliver optimal services for patients and other stakeholders.

Facilitate the design and development of clinical pathways. 

 Lead and support the planning, development and implementation of service transformation and improvement.

Participate in long term planning and strategic projects for CPFT to ensure ASMH services are considered and that there is long term sustainable model.

Promote a data driven approach and ensure sufficient and effective use of data to monitor performance and to satisfy internal and external reporting requirements.

Ensure there is proactive management of risk and co-ordination of all responses to patient complaints in a timely way.

Ensure that ASMH services meet the needs of the changing demography of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough population, offer responsive, equal and equitable access to service users and offers equal and inclusive opportunities for the workforce.

There is a requirement to participate in CPFT’s Director on call rota.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Postgraduate management qualification at Master’s level or equivalent level of experience.
  • Continuous management and personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Programme and project management qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of managing operational services at a senior management level in a large, complex health care organisation. This would include sound working experience and knowledge of a number of management disciplines across Operations, Finance, HR and Governance
  • Successful record of managing and implementing substantial service transformation and organisational change projects
  • Significant experience of working with senior clinicians and multi professional teams in achieving service improvement.
  • Experience of working at a senior managerial level within health or social care services
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing to inform and influence, staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to negotiate effective solutions and outcomes for staff and services.
  • Able to organise own workload and that of the team to meet objectives and operate effectively.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of planning and implementing long term strategy.
  • Experience of working closely with Commissioners to inform and implement policy initiatives.
