We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Support Worker.

In this key role, you will support the safe and timely supply of medicines by carrying out final accuracy checks on dispensed items. Working within a supportive hospital pharmacy team, you'll help enhance patient safety and the optimal use of medicines.

Main duties of the job

Actively participating in the daily operations of the dispensary, ensuring the accurate and high-quality dispensing of medicines.

 Acting as an ‘Accredited Checking Assistant’ under a nationally recognised accuracy checking dispensing assistant framework.

 Support the supply of medicines for both inpatients and outpatients, including accurate prescription processing, labelling, and assembly, while ensuring timely completion and distribution in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the daily operations of the dispensary, ensuring the accurate and high-quality dispensing of medicines.
  • Act as an ‘Accredited Checking Assistant’ under a nationally recognised accuracy checking dispensing assistant framework, performing final accuracy checks on designated dispensed items against prescriptions and requisitions, while maintaining ongoing competency in checking accurately and safely.
  • Support the supply of medicines for both inpatients and outpatients, including accurate prescription processing, labelling, and assembly, while ensuring timely completion and distribution in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Support the efficient operation of the clozapine service and ensuring timely distribution of charts to prescribers for signing.
  • Manage the ordering and distribution of stock medication for wards, ensuring timely and accurate supply.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Services
  • Hold or be willing to work towards National Level 3 qualification (eg. ILM) or hold equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Hold an accredited Accuracy Checking for Dispensing Assistants qualification or are willing to work towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience working in pharmacy
  • 3 years dispensing experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in Hospital Pharmacy.
  • Experience of managing and leading a team.
  • Experience in staff training.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy dispensing systems

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Proficient in IT systems, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and pharmacy-related software.
  • Skilled in training and motivating others effectively.
Desirable criteria
  • Able to modify communication skills to provide effective feedback and support to staff following near misses/ errors

  • Manual dexterity for handling medicinal products
