Main duties of the job

The Post

5 PAs: AEDS

This post is providing consultant clinical leadership and patient care in our community eating disorder service based at ward S3 outpatients at Addenbrooke’s hospital. 

Alongside a team consisting of two fellow consultant psychiatrists, a consultant psychologist, 3 GPs responsible for medical monitoring and a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, mental health practitioners, nurses, psychological therapists, a dietitian and health care assistants, you will provide assessment and treatment for all patients in your area. Consultants are expected to form close working relationships with other CPFT services, key contacts in primary care and offer consultation to liaison psychiatry and acute services. Supervision of junior staff and peer supervision of GPs is part of the role. 

 

5 PAs A-Edit:

This post is providing consultant clinical leadership and patient care in our alternative to admission service (A-EDIT).

The postholder will work with a team consisting of a principal psychologist, a therapist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dietitian, nurses, support workers, and peer support workers. You will provide assessment and treatment for regional patients under the care of the A-EDIT team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will provide clinical leadership to both teams. He or she will contribute to assessment of patients referred to the service for diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders and as appropriate, comorbid conditions. He/she will support MDT members who carry out assessment of patients. They will liaise with other teams and professionals regarding complex patients. They will help to facilitate accurate diagnosis and timely interventions so that treatment can be delivered in a timely manner and in accordance with the recovery model. He or she will also provide ongoing treatments to patients that are evidence based and supported by NICE guidelines maintaining a bio psychosocial approach. The consultant is expected to chair the weekly high risk meeting and aid the team leadership team at the weekly team meeting. He/she will also have a role in induction and training of staff. 

The post holder is required to maintain Section 12(2) status and Approved Clinician status and have a comprehensive awareness of Mental Health, Mental Capacity and Care Act legislation. He or she will be expected to participate in Mental Health Act assessments when possible and will be the Responsible Clinician for patients on supervised community treatment orders.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the collection of clinical information to ensure further service development and to enable audit, participate in clinical governance activities and contribute to the day-to-day management and to the overall service development agenda through collaboration with managerial and clinical colleagues.

The Trust is developing its services in line with modernised psychiatric practice. Consultants are actively involved in planning and developing services, and there will be opportunities to engage in quality improvement and service development work that is ongoing in the Trust. 

Professional Responsibilities
Training and Development

Post holder is expected to participate in the Trust’s annual Appraisal process and to attend all relevant mandatory training as and when required to do so.

The post holder will be expected to take part in regular supervision, annual appraisal and annual job planning.

The post holder will be expected to offer supervision to junior doctors and participate in medical student teaching. 

The postholder is expected to lead service development and quality improvement with regard to implementing national guidance such as NICE guidance and the MEED (Medical emergencies in eating disorders) guidance. One PA will be available for this work. 

Other responsibilities 
The post holder will be required to maintain his/her education, professional development and accreditation. Appropriate time and financial support is available for this purpose.  The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration and licence to practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Approved clinician status or eligible to attend training
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych or Equivalent

Entry criteria for the grade

  • Specialty Registration in specialty
  • CCT in relevant specialty or within 6 months of attainment of Higher Training CCT at time of interview.
  • Shall have equivalent experience and competencies recognised by GMC

Experience

  • Proven experience of good working relationships
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of reflective practice/formulation
  • Experience of teaching and supervision of doctors in training.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in eating disorder psychiatry
  • Experience in managing patients with complex comorbid conditions (personality disorder, autism)
  • Qualification in leading reflective practice/formulation
