Healthcare Support Worker
2/3
Job overview
Are you passionate about exceptional healthcare and would you like to make a difference in your local community? The new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Ely presents an exciting opportunity for the role of Healthcare Support Workers.
The aim of the new CDC is to make it easier for people to access diagnostic services such as CT, X-Ray, MRI, Ultrasound, Echo and Respiratory outside of acute hospital facilities. This approach will help alleviate the pressure on hospitals, offer quicker access to tests, and enhance convenience for patients.
We encourage professional development opportunities to grow within the scope of practice and upskill yourself with support from the wider team.
This is a full time position, 37.5 flexible working hours per week in order to support a service that will eventually run 7 days a week and extended hours 7am-8pm. Please kindly note you will be required to attend training at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge as part of your role
You will be recruited at Band 2 if you have not yet completed CUH HCSW induction which includes completion of the Care Certificate and Competencies. Once completed you will move up to Band 3. If you are currently working in a support worker role and have therefore completed these, you will be recruited as Band 3
Main duties of the job
- You will work as part of a team providing a high quality of service to patients, colleagues and the public.
- Under the direction of the registered practitioner in charge, ensure a smooth workflow by organising patients and liaising with the multi-disciplinary team.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures including the completion of pre-procedural assessments/checklists and clinical observations.
- Ensure medical devices are ready for use including safety checks.
- Actively monitor and report any change in patient condition or any problem or hazard within the department to the registered practitioner in charge.
- You will have to achieve competency in venepuncture, cannulation, Fibroscans, Fitting 24 hour ECGs etc
As Healthcare Support Worker, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, assisting with patient care and performing dedicated specialised tasks including venepuncture and intravenous cannulation after appropriate training. You will also provide support with administrative tasks and act as a chaperone when required. You will serve as a champion for patient safety and act as an ambassador for NHS values ensuring excellent healthcare and customer service. The role is physically challenging where you would be expected to bend and to be on your feet for long periods of time.
The process for functional skills has now changed, this is conducted as a second interview on TRAC following any applicant that is successful at their initial interview. This is organised by recruitment and you must achieve a pass rate of at least 50% to receive a conditional offer. This process applies to anyone that is not currently working as a Support Worker at CUH.
