Vaccination Officer

NHS AfC: Band 6

We are Central East ICB, the new organisation entrusted with serving more than 3.5 million people across Bedfordshire, Luton, Milton Keynes, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and Hertfordshire.

We are responsible for making sure that the NHS can continue to support our community – now, and in the future. Everything we do will be guided by our core purpose: to do what best serves the population of this area.

We promise to focus on what makes the biggest difference to people’s lives – acting earlier to help prevent illness and detect disease and making it easier for our community to get the health care they need, closer to home, whenever that’s possible.

If you need support with the application process, please contact our People Team at [email protected].

Read about our priorities in our strategy document, Our Way.

Job overview

The Vaccination Officer is a hands-on operational delivery and assurance role, responsible for managing vaccination assurance and data analysis across the Integrated Care System. The postholder supports the Strategic Vaccination Lead by maintaining effective operational oversight and control of vaccination programmes, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with national and local requirements.

The role ensures robust monitoring of all seasonal and Section 7a vaccination activity, including allocations, supply, delivery, uptake, and wastage management. Acting as a central point of contact for provider within a specific footprint, the Vaccination Officer responds to operational queries and resolves issues in a timely and coordinated manner.

The postholder will routinely review, analyse, and interpret vaccination uptake, supply, and performance data, providing clear assurance, insight, and evidence-based recommendations to support timely decision-making. With a strong focus on day-to-day operational performance, this role is essential to maintaining system resilience and supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and equitable vaccination programmes across the ICS.

1. Vaccine Allocation, Supply & Wastage Management

  • Maintain day‑to‑day oversight of vaccine stock, allocations and deliveries across the system.
  • Monitor site‑level stock positions and ensure timely stock takes.
  • Manage shortages and reduce vaccine wastage.
  • Identify and escalate supply or delivery risks, providing clear mitigation options.
  • Attend regional allocation and supply meetings, providing local operational insight.

2. Provider Queries & Operational Problem‑Solving

  • Troubleshoot issues, provide clarity, and escalate risks where required.
  • Support providers to meet delivery expectations through practical advice and assurance.
  • Support and maintain the vaccination website and vaccination events via assets and uptake data.
  • Monitor shared inboxes and ensure queries are handled or redirected appropriately.

3. Operational Assurance of Programme Delivery

  • Provide assurance on delivery of vaccination programmes including Covid‑19, Flu and other routine programmes.
  • Monitor delivery for care homes and housebound patient cohorts.
  • Highlight delivery risks, variation or slippage to the Strategic Vaccination Lead with recommended actions.
  • Contribute to business continuity planning and identification of operational risks.
