Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) Team Leader to join the well established small and unique team of mental health practitioners supporting the Cambridgeshire Constabulary from the police control room.

This service provides an effective first point of contact intervention by the Constabulary and Mental Health Services which ensures the most appropriate pathways are taken for individuals in mental health crisis.

IMHT staff give support to the police whilst liaising with mental health teams in relation to police matters, support police on help with missing persons, domestic abuse cases, as well as advising operations and giving clarity to officers over the Mental Health Act.

Working hours: Shifts consisting of 10:00 to 22:00 on week days and 13:00 to 21:00 on weekends.

The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability, accompanied by an ability to work under considerable pressure at times.

Main duties of the job

To provide a safe, effective and skilled co-ordination of the Mental Health Service to support the constabularies priorities of reducing harm and keeping people safe. You will be working on the frontline of policing in the police control room.

Provide inspirational operational management and leadership to the team ensuring effective implementation and on-going delivery of Trust pathways and protocols.

Lead on recruitment and supervision of staff within the team, establishment and monitoring of policies and procedure and liaison with a range of stakeholders including commissioners.

Your key role will be to give guidance and advice to police dispatchers and decision makers to enable the constabulary to provide a person centred approach and response to those in crisis.

To build relationships with other agencies and providers.

To identify potential clinical management problems and ensure that procedures and resources are in place to minimise or resolve the problem.

Engage with various agencies to give telephone advice as part of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Crisis Care Concordat 24/7 ‘First Response Model’.

To liaise with the clinical managers (during working hours) and on-call managers (out of hours) about clinical situations.

To liaise with the general public, representing the service and offering professional advice where appropriate.

To provide medical and mental health advice as outlined in the information sharing agreement.

Handover the shift and communicate with other staff who are taking over the next span of duty.

Education/Qualifcations

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional mental health qualification to degree or diploma level
Desirable criteria
  • Training relevant to Practice
  • Post Graduate Diploma
  • Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To have an understanding of individuals with complex needs
  • Knowledge of up to date legislation, national and local policies relating to the section 136 Police powers
  • Experience of successful working within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Evidence of delivering clinical and managerial supervision
  • Experience within relevant service area
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with wider stakeholder groups

Skills & Abilities

  • Experience of managing feedback, investigation of complaints or similar.

Knowledge & Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • Clear understanding of NICE guidelines and their implementation
  • To provide teaching and training to other staff
  • Demonstrate high quality risk assessment knowledge base
  • Data Collection experience
Desirable criteria
  • ENB 998/or equivalent
