A fantastic opportunity for someone with a finance background, who is AAT Qualified and looking to gain a further CCAB professional qualification.  By supporting the Trust to ensure it recovers all income due, and aid the development of PLICS costing methodologies, the post holder will gain a broad understanding of the entire range of services the Trust provides.  

Main duties of the job

  • Working with the Cost & Income Accountant to support the financial management of contractual and non-contractual income in line with financial policies.  Assist with the on-going refinement and dissemination of Patient Level Information Costing (PLICS) within the Trust, and completion of the National Cost Collection return. 

  • The role will also be responsible for ensuring that the Trust has appropriate financial controls in relation to the recovery of overseas patient income.  The post holder will be expected to ensure a customer-focussed service is provided by working closely with management accounts and commissioners.

 The role will provide: 

  • Robust, timely and accurate financial support.

  • Reliable financial forecasts.

  • Robust data monitoring to ensure identification of income due.

  • High quality financial advice and information to Service Managers, Senior Management and all other stakeholders.

  • To support the maintenance of financial systems and processes in order to seek continuous improvement, and ensure the Trust recovers all income due.

  • The job holder may be required to liaise with Commissioning, Contracting, Informatics and clinical colleagues in the Cambridgeshire area, to discuss key financial performance issues pertaining to income.

  1. Maintenance and development of robust internal reporting systems to ensure patient related income is calculated accurately and recovered in a timely manner in accordance with national guidance.

  2. Production of timely, accurate and reliable financial information in line with monthly and year end timetables.

  3. Supporting the Cost & Income Accountant in budget-setting and maintenance of a defined portfolio of budgets.

  4. Establish effective working relationships with Contracting and Information and Performance Leads, ensuring understanding and ownership of financial issues pertinent to their areas. 

  5. Investigate complex financial data to support variance analysis, and provide assistance and advice as required. This includes supporting the response to commissioner challenges.

  6. Identify trends from queries and pro-actively seek solutions in order to aid improvement. 

  7. To act as a contact point for advice regarding the Department of Health policy and procedures in relation to Overseas visitors charging, to assess the possibility of a patient’s eligibility for charging exemptions all in line with the DoH Overseas Visitor regulations.

  • Experience of working in an NHS or similar non-profit making organisation
  • Experience of working with financial systems and processes
  • Demonstrate experience in the analysis and assessment of financial and non-financial data
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in using Oracle finance system

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills including presentation and summary of data into meaningful information for non-finance managers and colleagues
  • Strong IT skills including Word, Excel and financial systems
  • Effective problem-solving skills, especially for new issues where no precedent to follow
