This an exciting opportunity to join an established neurodevelopmental CAMHS service as an ASD specialist psychologist. 

The role will include supporting and developing the team, providing consultation, and clinical work.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

To ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist clinical psychology service to CAMHS across the Huntingdon area of the Central Team and all sectors of care, providing highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of children and their families using a variety of models.

To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service/team.

To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research. To propose service developments and implement policy changes within the area served by the CAMH team.

To provide specialist advice, consultation and intervention in the clinic for children with an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD).

The post has supervisory responsibilities for qualified and trainee clinical psychologists and other qualified staff within the CAMH team.

The post does not have any budgetary responsibilities.

  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessments of young people with ASD/suspected ASD, carers/families. Assessments to be based on appropriate use, interpretation & integration of complex psychological data from sources including psychological/neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct/indirect observations & interviews with clients/families/carers, other agencies/professionals, making recommendations to agencies.

  • Formulate & implement plans for formal psychological treatments/management of mental health or other complex psychological problems based on appropriate conceptual frameworks adapting/utilising several psychological models and employing methods of proven efficacy.

  • Responsibility for implementing a range of psychological interventions for clients/families/carers & groups, adjusting/refining formulations using different explanatory models including developmental/cognitive/learning theory/ biological/neuropsychological, & maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

  • Provide specialist neuropsychology assessments, providing advice/consultation on this information to professionals, clients/families & agencies.

  • Evaluate & make decisions about treatment options considering theoretical & therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical/developmental processes.

  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment & discharge of own clients and manage & maintain caseload.

  • Provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance & consultation to professionals contributing to formulation, diagnosis & treatment plan.

  • Provide highly specialist neuropsychology assessments, advice & consultation. 

  • Provide highly specialist psychological teaching/advice/consultation/treatment to the ASD clinic.

  • Provide leadership to the Central team ASD clinic.

  • Communicate in a skilled & sensitive manner, information concerning assessment, formulation & treatment plans of own clients and monitor progress during care.

Education/Qualifications

  • Postgraduate doctoral level training (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in clinical or counselling psychology as accredited by the BPS or HCPC Statement of Equivalence. Training to include models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct therapies and lifespan development psychology
  • Registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Undertaken training in specialist assessments for ASD (eg ADOS-2, ADI-R).

Experience

  • Considerable experience of highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients with ASD and with clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings
  • Experience of the application of applied psychology in different contexts including CAMHS or Children’s Services
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
  • Experience of developing CAMH services
