Job overview
The appointees will join with the existing Acute Physicians in the Department of Acute Medicine at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Though this primary post is based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
Specialists in Acute Internal Medicine or General Internal Medicine recognised by the EEC are eligible to apply. Appropriate office accommodation, secretarial support and IT support will be provided.
The post holder will work across our Acute Medicine department in the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), the Short Stay Unit and the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).
The MAU/AAU sees, assesses, and treats patients in our acute unselected medical take.
Ambulatory care is overseen by a consultant and staffed by speciality doctors and advanced nurse practitioners, Short Stay Ward receives medical patients likely to be discharged within 72 hours of admission and achieves a high turnover of patients per day.
Main duties of the job
• Provide high-quality, safe and compassionate care, to the acutely ill medical patients
admitted to our hospital and provide them with the best possible experience during
their admission.
• Active participation in Trust Clinical Governance activities, including audit, mortality
review, and appraisal process. The appointee will ensure data collection and
processing undertaken is consistently accurate and timely and complies with the
Trust Data Quality Policy and Information Governance procedures.
• Teaching training and supervision of doctors, nurses, and students to promote a
positive and supportive atmosphere.
• Responsible for keeping a record of Continuous professional development (CPD),
including the Trust Mandatory training process.
• Will be responsible for engaging in regular appraisal process for revalidation
purposes.
• Undertake activities, defined, and agreed upon in the Job plan, using adequate
leadership skills to contribute to the achievement of the Trust and Department goals.
• Develop and promote departmental clinical guidelines with colleagues, in line with evidence-based best practice.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- Full GMC Registration and license to practice
Desirable criteria
- MRCP(UK) CCT and/or eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC Acute Medicine or specialist medicine with general medicine accreditation or within six months at the time of the Appointments Advisory Committee
- Higher qualification (e.g. MD, PhD)
- Valid ALS Certificate
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Completed training programme in General or Acute Medicine
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on the full range of problems in adult acute general medicine
- Ability to remain calm and work effectively, under pressure environment
- Able to organize and prioritize workload
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective written (including record keeping) and verbal communication skills
- Fluent in verbal and written English
- Awareness and respect for colleagues, patients and relatives dignity, privacy, integrity, cultural and religious beliefs
Clinical governance
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate successful participation in clinical governance activities
Desirable criteria
- Participation in relevant national Audits
- Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal
Leadership/Management
Essential criteria
- Evidence of management experience and/or training
- Good IT Skills
- Evidence of knowledge of NHS structure, and current NHS “5 year forward plan”
Desirable criteria
- Attendance on Management course
- Experience in service development
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and Ability to teach all grades of doctors and medical students
Desirable criteria
