North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has an opportunity within Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care Clinical Business Unit, with the majority of the work at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon. The post was previously created to provide a middle grade tier for the Theatres at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. 

The post holders will have full registration with the General Medical Council and will have completed at least 2 years of training and service in hospitals recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for training purposes, in the StR, CT or FTSTA grade. 

Applicants who have had all of their training overseas should demonstrate that they have completed at least three years in the specialty of Anaesthesia in posts which have offered a breadth and depth of experience comparable to that obtainable in the United Kingdom during a similar training period.

Main duties of the job

Principal elements of the post will be:

1.    Providing elective for a mixture of surgical specialty sessions such as orthopaedics, ENT, upper GI, colorectal or gynaecology.

2.    Providing emergency cover for emergency work including all surgical specialities excluding trauma, obstetrics, crash calls and the Emergency Department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will participate in a rota providing resident middle grade cover to the Theatres including emergencies and obstetrics on weekdays, and on nights seven days a week. The remainder of the contracted hours will be spent in elective theatre lists and undertaking supporting professional activities. Further development of specialist interests will be supported through study leave (30 days per 3-year cycle).

Theatres duties are organised on a rolling 1:10 rota. Elective lists are programmed into the 10-week cycle. However, departmental service needs may require increased participation in the on-call rota and this would be agreed in the job plan on an individual basis.

The post holder is managerially accountable to the Divisional Operational Manager, Division of Surgery and clinically accountable to the Divisional Director, Division of Surgery.

  • MB ChB or equivalent basic medical qualification

Experience

  • 3 years experience in anaesthesia and critical care

  • 12 months experience in critical care
  • Audit projects with outcomes.
