Job overview

The post holder will be required oversee and work as part of the catering team to prepare, cook and serve food to a high standard to our patients, visitors and staff. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that food is safely produced following the departments food safety policies, NHS food standards and food safety legislation. The post holder will be required to support and advise chefs, catering team leaders, food service assistants and mentor trainees to work in the department, as well as liaise with colleagues from dietetics and SALT. To assist managers to ensure that the departments resources, foodstuff and equipment are used effectively in providing nutritional meals to the consumer.

Main duties of the job

To Assist the Head Chef and Retail Manager to support the delivery of a high quality and cost-effective hospitality, to provide leadership and support to the Catering Team daily, to encourage and support all members of the team.

The day-to-day supervision of the department liaising with the Team Leaders to ensure the smooth running of the department.

The post holder may be required to represent the department at user meetings and suggest ideas for improvement.

 The post holder can be required to assist Environmental Health Officers in the absence of the Head Chef.

To undertake the workload of a specific section of the kitchen or shift when required.

To maintain staff attendance records, monitor sickness/absence, holidays and check timesheets at the end of each month in conjunction with the Head Chef, to complete return to work interviews and annual appraisals.

To plan production and assist with rostering within the kitchen to ensure that all roles are covered and that staff are given the opportunity to work in all areas of the department.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Catering Qualification City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ 2
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate or Food Safety Level 3
  • Basic literacy & numeric skills
  • Preparing Dysphagia Diets for IDDSI Course
  • Food Allergy Training Course
  • HACCP Level 3

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive understanding of HACCP, Health and Safety Legislation and COSSH.
  • Previous experience of producing Modified Texture Diets Meals
  • Knowledge and experience of preparing Allergy Free Meals
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in large scale catering
  • Previous experience dealing the public
