The post holder will act as the Senior Engineer for retained estates across North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, providing technical leadership and operational management of the mechanical, electrical, and water engineering teams.

This role includes day-to-day leadership of engineering services and contributing technical expertise to support the New Hospital Programme (NHP) and wider Trust Capital redevelopment projects. The post holder will ensure compliance with statutory requirements, support high-performing engineering teams, and drive forward improvements in patient safety, resilience, and service efficiency.

The successful candidate will encourage muti-disciplinary working between Estates and Facilities managers and seek opportunities to share resources and work collaboratively.

Main duties of the job

Team Leadership & Engineering Oversight

  • Line manages mechanical, electrical, and water infrastructure engineers across retained sites
  • Oversee engineering maintenance, statutory compliance, and reactive response
  • Ensure consistent application of HTMs, HBNs, and best practice standards
  • Act as an Authorised Person (AP) for relevant systems (e.g. electrical, water, ventilation, medical gas)

New Hospital Programme Support

  • Provide technical advice and operational insight to the New Hospital Development Team, leading the HTM sub-groups assuring the infrastructure.
  • Ensure alignment between capital project specifications and operational estates and a seamless hand over.
  • Participate in commissioning and technical review meetings

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Support delivery of water safety, electrical safety, and fire safety strategies
  • Lead on compliance-related audits, updates to procedures, and action plans
  • Support Trust-wide initiatives including PAM and ERIC returns

Communication & Collaboration

  • Act as a key point of contact for engineering issues affecting service delivery
  • Liaise with the Estates Manager responsible for workforce performance to assure a robust approach to compliance
  • Work alongside Clinical Teams, Project Leads, and Contractors
  • Attend Trust forums including infrastructure safety and Compliance Groups

Education and Qualifications

  • Professional knowledge acquired to degree level or equivalent Estates Management performance, experience and specialist knowledge
