Job overview

Band 3 Maternity Support Workers (MSW's) provide direct clinical care to all women and babies accessing maternity services, including Community, Antenatal clinic, Intrapartum and Inpatient areas.

Shift patterns hours in Antenatal Clinics and Community are between 7.5 hours and 9.5 hours daytime only. Intrapartum and Inpatient areas will be shifts patterns including nights and weekends

Band 3 MSW's may serve as a point of contact/support for women and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological and emotional care and support; they provide appropriate information and where necessary, signpost to wider support organisations. They report to registered practitioners where planned delegated care has been provided.

Main duties of the job

A Maternity Support Worker will support the wider multidisciplinary team to provide care and support to service users and their babies. 

This will include

  • Care of the service user
  • Care of the baby
  • Infant Feeding
  • Managerial/Leadership
  • Administration

Plus specialists tasks following appropriate training and assessment

Education/Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent
  • Level 3 Accredited Heath Care related qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (Maternity option) / Maternity and Paediatric support

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of IT skills, and use of email systems
  • Experience working with the public and customer care skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous clinical experience within health and social care setting relevant to role
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Organised
  • Meticulous Record Keeping
Desirable criteria
  • Computer skills including Microsoft

Communication

  • Good verbal and non-verbal communication
