Occupational Therapist Lead
Band 7

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the Bridge Street PSS North team, supporting individuals with complex trauma. This role is pivotal in leading and developing the role of Occupational Therapy within the Psychological Skills Service (PSS), with a strong focus on sensory-based and trauma-informed interventions.
Within this role there is an expectation that the successful candidate would work on a Thursday to join and give appropriate clinical advice in our clinical meeting.
There will be the requirement to work from bases in Huntingdon, Cambridge and Fenland depending on clinical need. There will be an exception to co-deliver F2F OT Groups, providing specialist assessments and also providing supervision, and working alongside, Support Workers based in the team.

As a senior clinician, you will:
Lead and shape the strategic direction of Occupational Therapy within PSS, ensuring its integration into multidisciplinary care pathways.
Provide clinical and professional leadership to other Occupational Therapists, including supervision, development planning, and quality assurance.
Deliver specialist, evidence-based interventions (individual and group), including “Coping with My Senses” and sensory modulation/interception-focused work.
Train and consult with multidisciplinary colleagues, enabling them to incorporate sensory modulation strategies into their psychological therapy or support work, enhancing outcomes for individuals with trauma and neurodivergence.
Promote occupational performance and engagement in meaningful activities across self-care, productivity, and leisure.
Champion a neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed approach, supporting individuals to build self-regulation, restore occupational balance, and recognise sensory differences as strengths.

Manage a complex and specialist clinical caseload.
Conduct comprehensive, holistic assessments using Model Of Human

including “Coping with My Senses” and sensory modulation/interception focused work.
Support individuals in understanding and managing the impact of
developmental trauma and neurodivergence on sensory processing and
occupational functioning.
Promote occupational performance and engagement in meaningful activities across self-care, productivity, and leisure.
Undertake clinical reasoning, formulation, and treatment planning.
Use MOHO and Therapy Outcome Measures (TOMs) for assessment and
outcome tracking.
Communicate sensitively with service users and carers, especially in
challenging or distressing situations.
Support social inclusion and promote physical and mental well-being.
Engage in safe lone working when required, following protocols

Skills & Abilities

- Ability to lead the OT team and work autonomously using own initiative
- To plan, undertake group work and evaluate
- Specialist knowledge of OT assessment, intervention and practice models relevant to the client group (service users who have experience trauma)
- Ability to use relevant measures to understand a service users sensory profile and create an effective treatment plan using Ayres Sensory Integration principles
- To communicate OT treatment plans and clinical reasoning for interventions to other members of the multidisciplinary team and to work in collaboration with other disciplines and staff
Knowledge and Understanding

- The post holder should have a specialist knowledge of relevant theoretical frameworks, including the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and be able theory to practice to facilitate high quality assessment and treatment.
- The post holder should have a specialist understanding and experience of relevant areas of research and practice, including trauma informed care, personality disorder, mental health and forensic risk issues and treatment needs
- Demonstrate experience of delivering/ contributing to group programmes
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems from a trauma informed perspective
- Good knowledge and understanding of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children
