We are looking for a Specialist Grade Doctor to complement our current Dermatology team undertaking sessions at all our three hospital sites Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Peterborough City Hospital and Stamford and Rutland Hospital. All our hospital sites are accessible by road or train within easy commute distance from London, Cambridge, Leicester or Birmingham.

Our main aim is to deliver the best possible care to our local communities working closely with the Community sector and providing support and governance for GPwER and Nursing Specialists in the area.

You will be instrumental in providing a full range of care services at the Secondary care level for Medical Dermatology and skin cancer patients. Regular outpatient clinics, procedure lists and MDT attendance will be incorporated into the job plan with sessions occurring on both sites, supported by the relevant nursing staff.

You must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register and have a proven record of accomplishments in your speciality.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitment is 10 PAs (9 DCC+ 1 SPA) including both outpatient and theatre where additional SPAs can be considered depending on additional roles undertaken. The job plan will be reviewed on an annual basis.

Cover for urgent inpatient referrals and GP queries during working hours is also anticipated, but there is no formal out-of-hours cover required for this post regularly.

You will provide outpatient clinic and procedure lists across the hospital sites for inflammatory skin disease and skin cancer patients in the adult and paediatric population, actively participating in the skin cancer multidisciplinary team, with regular attendance at the alternate week MDT meetings.

You will ensure a comprehensive Dermatology service in collaboration with other Dermatologists, including inpatient care and referrals, outpatient referrals and treatment and telephone or electronic advice and guidance to local GPs.

You will be expected to contribute to the Trust and CBU Clinical Governance processes including the dedicated monthly half days. Compliance with the annual appraisal and revalidation programme is required.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • MRCP Full GMC Registration and license to practice
  • Valid ALS certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Higher qualification (e.g. MD, PhD)
  • CESR application in progress or applied for

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following: • that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or • Have the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS)-Overall 7.5. Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7.
  • If applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills, but do not fit into one of the examples they need to provide evidence. • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Dermatology. • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on the full range of problems in adult and paediatric Dermatology, including significant experience in skin cancer. • Ability to remain calm and work effectively, under pressure environment • Able to organize and prioritize workload • Sufficient Dermatology skills and experience, to have developed competencies equivalent to those acquired during medical registrar training (equivalent years’ experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted).

  • Participation in relevant national Audits
  • Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal

Leadership/Management

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of management experience and/or training
  • Good IT Skills
  • Evidence of knowledge of NHS structure, and current NHS forward plan
  • Ability to organise and manage day to day service delivery
  • Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance on Management course
  • Experience in service development

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and Ability to teach all grades of doctors and medical students
  • Experience of supervising FY1s, FY2s StRs and SpRs
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
