Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

Band 7

Job overview

Are you keen to develop an Occupational Therapy Service in an adult Critical Care Unit alongside an MDT comprising of Physiotherapists, Dietitians and Speech and Language Therapists, if so then read on.

We are looking for a dynamic Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to work in this emerging area of practice for Occupational Therapy within our general adult Critical Care Units and to outreach to complex patients and therapists working in in-patient therapy.

We have two general Critical Care Units on two hospital sites at the Trust, both of which are covered by therapy. The patients are very varied and have a large range of complexity originating from many specialities including medicine, stroke, neurology, orthopaedics, surgery and renal and hence requiring a broad set of transferrable advanced skills as well as a desire to take the MDT on an exciting journey of discovery of the role of Occupational Therapy within this field.

Healthcare is a 7 day service and therefore the expectation will be for you to support weekend working.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.

Main duties of the job

The role involves;

  • Networking with Clinical specialists within other fields and throughout the NWA Trust to streamline and progress services.
  • To work closely with the wider MDT on Critical Care to develop OT service provision in Critical Care, including early rehab, orientation and functional rehab.
  • Assisting the MDT, including therapists with the rehabilitation, discharge planning or onward referrals of complex patients on the wards.
  • Taking an active role in and support the skill development of staff working on our wards, including  junior OT staff and Degree Apprentices

Working for our organisation
