Job overview
This secondment offers a development opportunity for a motivated registered nurse to progress into a Band 7 role within the Parkinson’s Specialist Nursing Service. The post holder will support the delivery of high‑quality, person‑centred care for patients living with Parkinson’s disease, providing specialist assessment, medication management, education, and ongoing support to patients and their families. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, the role will contribute to improving patient outcomes, reducing avoidable admissions, and ensuring continuity of care across community and acute settings. The successful applicant will develop advanced clinical skills, autonomous practice, and leadership capability while being fully supported by the existing specialist team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the delivery of specialist nursing care for patients living with Parkinson’s disease across the Trust. Key duties include undertaking comprehensive assessments, supporting timely medication management, providing patient and carer education, and offering ongoing monitoring to promote stability and prevent deterioration. The role involves working autonomously within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to personalised care plans, coordinating care across acute and community settings, and supporting early intervention to reduce avoidable hospital admissions.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse
- Evidence of continuous personal and professional development
Desirable criteria
- Graduate calibre or working towards
- Recognised teaching/mentorship course
Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent previous experience within the specialty at Band 6 with the ability to demonstrate up-to-date evidence-based practice
- Teaching/mentoring experience
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of managing clinical change
- Recent experience in an acute setting
- Evidence of participation in audit or research
- Experience in supporting people
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent Parkinson’s Disease knowledge
- Ability to demonstrate understanding of the skills required to avoid. Manage admission, discharge and follow up care of a patient of all ages living with Parkinson’s Disease
- Good understanding of clinical governance framework and evidence of application
- Clear understanding of care processes
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of infection prevention and evidence of application
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to identify personal skill/ knowledge limitations for appropriate multidisciplinary/ consultant referral
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to use tact, diplomacy, and persuasion, as well as authority
- Good verbal and written English which can be evidenced at interview or IELTS level 7 or above (6 ½ prior to 01/022/07).
- Good IT skills with ability to use MS Word, Excel and databases
- Good record keeping and written presentation skills
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
