Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced physiotherapist to join the Neurology Service to continue to develop and deliver a specialist service for patients with Parkinson's Disease across NWAngliaFT.
We are looking for a 2-year fixed term band 7 Physiotherapist to provide 37.5 / week. You should be forward thinking, dynamic and have the desire to develop individually and improve the specialist service further alongside the nurse specialist.
The post holder will offer expert advice and information to people with Parkinson's in order to facilitate and support self-management of their condition. They will act as an expert resource for other health professionals working with people with Parkinson's and take a lead role in the holistic assessment of patients.
The service operates within a clinic environment or ward environment. The successful applicant will work with other physiotherapists, occupational therapists, Parkinson's nurses, managing their own caseload of patients and provide a link in the care of people with PD between acute and community services.
You must have experience of working within the PD speciality within the NHS. You will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical, teaching and leadership skills and be actively involved in service development. Post graduate training will be supported to enable further development in the management of this patient group.
Main duties of the job
The highly specialist physiotherapist will work with the multi-disciplinary Parkinson’s Disease (PD) service with the Medicine Division. They will work alongside the outpatient highly specialist physiotherapist - neurology and the inpatients highly specialist physiotherapist with special interest in PD and provide physiotherapy to both in and outpatients.
The post holder will work using an enhanced level of practice applying specialist knowledge and skills in the field of Parkinson’s Disease. They will assess and treat a specialist complex caseload of patients and make clinical decisions for treatment plans.
They will act as the profession specific lead to support the training and development of the clinical staff within the neurology therapy team and wider multidisciplinary team. Lead on service development, audit and assist in research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence-based care in line with trust and national priorities. They will be responsible for the delivery and evidence of key quality performance indicators linked to providing high quality care.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registered
- Evidence of post graduate training/qualification relevant to clinical Parkinson’s Disease/Neurology
Desirable criteria
- CSP member
- Member of CSP Specialist section – i.e ACPIN, TiMS
Experience
Essential criteria
- NHS experience working at band 6 level neurology
- Clinical experience within Parkinson’s Disease
- Experience of multi-disciplinary working
- Experience of change management /service improvement/audit
- Experience of developing staff and sharing knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Ability to demonstrate working with regional/national networks
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Sound knowledge of current practices, interventions and developments within the field of Parkinson’s Disease
