Job overview

Student Pharmacy Technician

(Training is delivered by an external provider)

Are you a friendly, reliable, forward thinking individual? Always wanted to start a career within pharmacy but didn’t know where to start? Our Trust is pleased to be in a position to recruit a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy technician (PTPT) to commence a fixed two year apprenticeships programme, within our Pharmacy department, based at Peterborough City Hospital site. This position will work alongside our trained staff and other trainees within the department but will also involve travelling to the University of East Anglia (UEA) or other training sites within the Eastern Region and our other hospital sites within North West Anglia Foundation Trust. The ability to be able to travel to these locations will be essential.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake the apprenticeship training. This will include working in a supported environment to develop the skills and knowledge required to complete the qualification. This includes being trained in the competencies for Dispensing, storage and the distribution of medicines, patient counselling, ward medicine management and accredited checking and to be able to implement these into practice to meet the requirements of current legislation and professional standards. For our Trust, our PTPT’s will have the opportunity to complete the Certificate in Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practise with the UEA and on completion register as a qualified Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Original copies of certificates/qualifications must be available on both the interview and registration day.

Please note NVQ level 2 is not an entry route to this training programme.

Interviews will be held the beginning of July 2026.

Start date will be mid September 2026 and the mandatory registration to the University of East Anglia (UEA) will be in the week commencing the 21st September 2026.  This is to be confirmed but could involve two days induction delivered at the UEA or using the online portal Microsoft Teams.

Working for our organisation

We are committed to supporting colleagues through organisational change. Priority will be given to staff at risk within North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board.
