Job overview

An exciting oppurtunity has arisen to for an ambitious and motivated individual to take part in  a fellowship training programme for Structural Heart Disease. 

The fellow will have a dedicated educational supersvisor and regular meetings to ensure educational goals are being met whilst being heavily involved with all aspects of the TAVI pathways and other related activity .

Main duties of the job

The Structural Fellow will be responsible for the medical coordination of the percutaneous valve program, working closely with the Structural Clinical Nurse Specialists and coordinators. This includes arranging admissions for assessment and treatment, attending a weekly outpatient clinic for patient evaluations, and providing daily ward reviews.  

The Fellow will receive training in TAVI and TEER procedures, with potential exposure to PFO closure depending on their level of expertise. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate and conduct research on TAVI and structural heart disease, leading predefined studies in this area. This research is anticipated to result in presentations at national and international conferences, as well as publications in peer-reviewed journals. The Fellow will also maintain and further develop the existing comprehensive database on TAVI patients.  

The Structural Fellow’s involvement in the coronary intervention service will be determined based on discussions, as priority is given to interventional trainees. However, opportunities may arise to contribute in areas where coverage is needed in the catheterization lab.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 or more years of clinical experience working in a tertiary cardiac centre for interventional cardiology
  • Research and Clinical Governance experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within Cardiology

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
  • Up to date with current medical practices
  • Ability to take appropriate clinical decisions when necessary
  • Research and Interests relevant to speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Audit Experience
  • Showcase IT Skills
