Applications are invited for a Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) in Anaesthetics and Perioperative Care suitable for grades ST3 and above with a start date of 5th August 2026. The post is for a 12 month fixed term period

This is a full time post, comprising of 50% teaching and 50% clinical time based on University Hospital of Wales (UHW) and University Hospital Llandough (UHL) sites.

This post offers an exiting opportunity for a forward thinking doctor with a strong interest in medical education.  Support may be available to pursue a postgraduate medical education based qualification.

Main duties of the job

Teaching is a major component of the role and the successful postholder will work with the Department of Medical Education, Specialty Lead and undergraduate tutors to deliver evidence based undergraduate education to Cardiff and Swansea University medical students.  The successful applicant will have an honorary contract with Cardiff University with the title Honorary Lecturer.

Clinical time will be spent in Anaesthetics.  The timetable for this period will be agreed to enable the appointee to work at a level that is suitable for their stage of training.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Completion of UK Foundation Training
  • Primary FRCA
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Academic excellence

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years of Anaesthesia Training on recognised training programme
  • Teaching Experience
  • Ability to make appropriate clinical decisions when necessary
Desirable criteria
  • Academic excellence
  • Broad understanding of principles of medical education

Skills

  • Genuine interest in undergraduate education
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English
