NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Living Well, Caring Well, Working Together
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Surgical Gynaecological Oncology to join a dynamic and high-performing regional cancer centre serving South East Wales.
Based at the University Hospital of Wales, you will work within a well-established tertiary referral service delivering specialist care for complex gynaecological malignancies alongside secondary care provision for Cardiff and the Vale. The department manages over 450 cancer surgeries annually and reviews more than 800 patients through its multidisciplinary team (MDT), offering exposure to a broad and complex case mix. The service delivers advanced and innovative surgical care, including minimally invasive and robotic surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping, ultra-radical cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC, supported by close collaboration with colorectal, urology and reconstructive teams. Strong links with Velindre Cancer Centre ensure fully integrated oncology pathways.
Main duties of the job
You will join a highly skilled multidisciplinary team with a strong commitment to patient-centred care, prehabilitation and enhanced recovery, alongside active involvement in teaching, training and service development. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking regional service with strong collaborative networks and a commitment to clinical excellence and innovation. Relocation expenses will be supported in line with organisational policy.
Cardiff and Vale UHB is committed to developing its people. In addition to strong links with education partners, Cardiff & Vale UHB’s Academy of Leadership and Management has a comprehensive leadership development programme aimed at cultivating confident and compassionate clinical leaders to deliver exceptional care and contribute to the longer term strategy for service delivery and improvement. Cardiff and Vale UHB also has a very strong Research & Development function, working in partnership with Cardiff University. The role also offers the opportunity to develop a research portfolio and involvement in roles within the National Cancer Network.
