CARING FOR PEOPLE - KEEPING PEOPLE WELL

Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Vascular Surgeon to work within the South East Wales Regional Vascular Network.  The post will be based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff.

Following vascular centralisation, arterial surgery is only performed on the UHW (Major Arterial Centre) site.  The appointee will be expected to provide services to one of the spoke sites in three Health Board areas covered by the Network.

Cardiff is the site of the Children’s Hospital for Wales (CHfW), adjacent to UHW.  It is expected that the post holder will be prepared to be involved in the management of paediatric vascular trauma cases as and when they arise.  We appreciate that paediatric experience may be limited for some candidates, therefore senior mentorship is available for all cases.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full.  In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will contribute on a 1 in 9 basis to the South East Wales Vascular Network.  The job plan includes two theatre sessions per week in the vascular theatre, two outpatient clinics, and a day case list.  Participation in endovascular procedures is encouraged; dedicated lists will be allocated when the hybrid theatre is operational.  The appointee will be expected to participate in the existing vascular programmes.

Cardiff and Vale, Aneurin Bevan, and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Boards are committed to providing timeouts access to skilled appraisers to allow the successful candidate to undergo meaningful yearly appraisals and the Health Board’s Responsible Officer actively supports clinicians in completing their revalidation.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.  The basic salary range for this post is £91,722 per annum to £119,079 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards.  Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
