Financial Accountant

Job overview
The Financial Accountant is a senior finance professional within DHCW. They will be responsible for leading and developing the accounting functions of DHCW, including the Accounts Receivable, VAT and Accounts Payables Functions. They will ensure the delivery of an efficient and effective service and will develop these functions to be best in class, which will assist the Finance Department to achieve its target of full assurance in its core financial systems audits of these functions. The post holder will also assist the Head of Financial Services and Reporting in leading the organisation on all technical aspects of accounting ensuring that the financial reporting standards are interpreted and are fully met in order to assist with the production of the Trust’s Statutory Annual Accounts and all statutory, monthly and annual returns. This role provides direct support to the Head of Financial Services and Reporting in the delivery of financial accounting services and will deputise in their absence. The post will also be required to provide support to other roles within the DHCW wide Finance team, as necessary.
Main duties of the job
- Co-ordinate and assist with the production and completion of DHCW Annual Accounts, associated working papers and financial returns.
- Support with DHCW’s external auditors in their Final Accounts audit.
- Support the Head of Financial Services & Reporting to ensure that the Trust are aware of any new or changes to any IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) or any other statutory changes, assessing their impact and sharing knowledge / training with relevant staff.
- Produce/manage the production of monthly reconciliation and reports with regards to suspense and Balance sheet codes.
- Deputise for the Head of Financial Services & Reporting when required, including attendance at NHS Wales-wide meetings, for example Technical Accounting Group (TAG).
- Be a key point of contact for Internal and External Auditors, leading on the production of information for them and resolving queries. This will include regular and ad hoc audits on core financial systems, capital, and year end queries on the financial statements.
- Lead a comprehensive review of the Trust Trial Balance and Balance Sheet on a monthly basis and identify any material misstatements, ensuring that the review is compliant with internal and external audit requirements
