Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Health Intelligence Analyst to join the Data & Analytics team within the newly established Value Transformation directorate of NHS Wales Performance and Improvement.
The work will be wide ranging and varied as the team is tasked with providing a health intelligence service to the range of Directorates within NHS Wales Performance and Improvement. This role will have a primary responsibility of supporting a health intelligence programme of work focused on the National Cancer Team that sits within the Networks & Planning directorate but will also contribute to the wider remit of the service and react to changing priorities of our partners.
Main duties of the job
The Data & Analytics team encompasses data, analysis, information and knowledge, ensuring decision makers have the right intelligence at the right time to improve the quality, efficacy and efficiency of services to improve patient experience, safety and outcomes.
We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and driven individual to support our partners. We will provide an environment in which you can gain more experience, expand your knowledge and develop new skills as part of a fast-growing team.
Your day-to-day role will require you to have a vast array of skills in areas including analytics, statistics, data visualisation, negotiation and communication to deliver high-profile projects that meet the team’s objectives. Where applicable, you will be given a range of responsibilities which may include developing expertise on a specific dataset, analytical method, programming language or Business Intelligence tool. You will also work alongside the Cancer Information and Intelligence team, the Head of Health Intelligence, and other senior colleagues ensuring the team embraces innovative techniques to be at the forefront of health intelligence in Wales.

- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent professional experience
Desirable criteria
- Project management qualification or equivalent experience

- Experience of linking complex data sets to derive meaningful analysis, using a range of tools and techniques to deliver health intelligence covering data extraction, data warehouse, data analysis and data presentation
- Experience of understanding and resolution of data quality issues, and providing and presenting highly complex information to clinicians and senior managers
Desirable criteria
- Experience of developing and training staff
Skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced IT and analytical skills with a knowledge of IT tools/systems such as SQL, business intelligence systems, statistical software and programming languages

- Ability to work autonomously using own discretion
- Curiosity and appetite to continuously improve products and processes
