Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 1,2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the  living wage of £12 per hour - £23,465 per annum. This temporary top up will be in place until  the annual pay uplift for 2024/25 is confirmed.

Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and motivated individual to join the Public Health Wales Microbiology Administration Team at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

This role will provide administrative support to the Business Support Manager, Microbiology Clinical Hub and clinical/scientific teams across the laboratory. 

The successful applicant will demonstrate proven experience of working in an NHS administrative role with effective communication and organisational skills.  Applicants will need to have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and confident minute taking skills.

This post is a busy and varied role for which you will require the ability to deal with a wide range of tasks whilst effectively organising and prioritising your workload.  The ability to work on your own initiative to meet the role requirements is essential, in addition to the ability to perform as a committed team member.

Main duties of the job

This  is a key supporting role to the Business Management function and sits within the Microbiology Administration Team.   As an SARO you will communicate and liaise with Microbiology stakeholders within and external to Public Health Wales.  You will have a thorough understanding of Standing Financial Instruction and the Procure to Pay process, ideally having experience in Finance and/or Procurement. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • RSA III / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of experience
  • High level of written and spoken English and numeracy

  • Advanced ECDL

  • Demonstrable experience in an administrative role
  • Previous experience of working with financial systems and/or procurement of goods or equipment
  • Previous experience of dealing with customers, clients and/or members of the public
