Job overview
A vacancy has arisen within the Finance Team of Public Health Wales resulting in an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive individual to join the Trust as Senior Finance Assistant (Capital and Financial Management Support), supporting the NHS Executive, which is hosted by Public Health Wales.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will prepare and provide accurate monthly Financial Management reports in accordance with the reporting timetable. This will include preparation of expenditure and budget journals, variance analysis, trend analysis and forecasting to support the Senior Finance Partner in their role and also financial monitoring of NHS Executive’s Capital allocation.
In addition, the post holder will support the Senior Finance Partner in any costings, attend and fully participate in budget holder meetings and continually improve the Financial Management Support Team.
You will also provide support to budget setting and the year-end accounts process to ensure the accurate and timely closure of Public Health Wales financial accounts.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will be able to find a full job description and person specification attached within the supporting documents.
You will ideally be AAT qualified or hold a Finance/Accountancy degree with experience of working in an accounting environment. Previous NHS experience would be advantageous.
Candidates must possess excellent communication, organisational and IT skills and be able to work to defined deadlines.
The office base will be CQ2 with the expectation of hybrid working, appropriate equipment will be provided.

- AAT degree in Accountancy/Finance and Business or equivalent experience

- Experience of working in a large complex organisation
- Experience of working with non financial senior managers.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in the NHS in a financial environment
- Costing and business case costings.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent IT skills, including experience in all Microsoft applications
- Ability to work under own initiative
- Ability to work on multiple complex tasks, working to tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the financial Oracle system.
- An appreciation of NHS financial accounting.
