Job overview
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the
development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care,
participating and contributing to the wider clinical governance agenda
including service developments and flexible approach to meet the needs
of patients.
Managing a case load of patients receiving a range of
Oncology treatments and management of the associated complications.
There is also a requirement to supervise junior staff and teach qualified
and unqualified staff including basic and post basic students.
Please be aware that you may be required to cover in Chemotherapy
Service, Outpatients or Inpatients.
Main duties of the job
To lead and be directly involved with clinical and operational procedures with patients, carers and relatives.
To undertake assessments and direct care plans for patients, relatives and carers, with the team for those needing in-patient care, day-care and respite support.
To work closely with patients and their families.
To organise and lead case conferences and multi-agency meetings for patients, carers and families (particularly those with complex needs).
To ensure that all care plan requirements are met within specified time-scales.
To plan with the patient a leave or discharge plan that is followed through for each individual involving both nurses, community services and other agencies where appropriate.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- 1st level Registered General Nurse Post Graduation Degree in Oncology or equivalent experience
- Demonstrate high level of knowledge of critical care management required for role. Demonstrate knowledge of IT e.g. WPAS, Power-point
- High level of numeracy and literacy
Desirable criteria
- PGCE or Cert Ed
- Cert/Diploma Management
- MSc or a willingness to obtain one
Experience
Essential criteria
- Oncology experience
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of change management agent
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Critical appraisal and literature reviewing skills
- Effective oral and presentation skills
- Demonstrate advanced level of communication skills.

- IT skills – ECDL, wpas
