Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) is advancing its digital transformation agenda to enhance clinical practice, improve patient outcomes, and prepare for future service delivery at the new Velindre Cancer Centre and beyond. To achieve this strong clinical digital leadership is pivotal. This commitment includes embedding digital solutions across all care settings, supporting staff to adopt new technologies, and ensuring systems are safe, effective, and aligned with modern healthcare standards.
The Lead Digital Clinical Specialist will provide robust clinical leadership and be responsible for the operational delivery of this transformation. This will be achieved through working within a multi-disciplinary team to lead the implementation and optimisation of clinical digital systems. This includes—but is not limited to—the successful delivery of the Trust’s electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) solution, which will support the safe, clinical, and cost-effective use of medicines across the organisation and all clinical digital infrastructure required for the new Velindre Cancer Service.In addition, the post holder will be responsible for developing, planning, and delivering training programmes for nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to support the rollout and effective use of the Welsh Nursing Care Record (WNCR) and other clinical digital platforms.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
· Use their specialist knowledge and experience, alongside digital skills to provide clinical advice to the programme team and support the development, testing, implementation, configuration and ongoing optimisation of digital systema across all Trust sites.
· Assist the Chief Nursing Information Officer for Digital in informing and contributing to the pre-implementation and delivery plans for the system. This will include system demonstrations, promoting the benefits of digital systems, and working with the wider Digital, Data and Technology teams to ensure the system is implemented in a safe and timely manner.
· Utilise nursing experience and knowledge to contribute to the design of new ways of working associated with ePMA and other digital systems to ensure maximum levels of safety and quality.
· Support the Chief Nursing Information Officer by providing visible leadership and management to the wider Digital Clinical Specialist team.
· Have significant autonomy to organise their own workload and act on their own initiative to deliver the delegated programme aims.
· Ensure full successful operational delivery of all clinical digital systems by working with managers, leaders and front line staff.
· Support the digitalisation of clinical records project.
· Line manage the Digital Clinical Specialist Team.
