Job overview

Pathology Practice Education Facilitator (Band 6)

1 year fixed-term contract/secondment due to funding

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Pathology Practice Education Facilitator (PPEF) to play a key role within a ‘pilot’ being carried out by the National Pathology Programme, hosted by NHS Wales Performance and Improvement. This position will be based in Hywel Dda UHB, and you will work with existing local training staff.  Main responsibilities will include contributing to training and education for HCPC Registration Portfolios, undergraduate placement programmes, apprenticeships, CPD initiatives and outreach events. This is aligned with the wider implementation of an academy model across Diagnostics services, as outlined in the Pathology Statement of Intent (2019), and the Diagnostic Recovery Transformation Plan for Wales (2023–2025).

The post holder will be based at Prince Philip Hospital, however, they will be expected to travel to other locations within the Health Board to deliver training and support as required.  The role may also involve collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders across Wales both via MS Teams and in person, which will involve travelling to meet the requirements of the post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be employed by the National Pathology Programme to pilot the Pathology Practice Education Facilitator role. Working with training teams in the hosting Health Board, they will support high-quality education and training for staff and students across Wales, building strong relationships with training leads, training officers, professional bodies, higher education institutions, and the wider pathology education network.

They will play a key role in supporting HCPC registration, competency-based learning, CPD, apprenticeships, student placements, while also promoting career pathways to staff, students, and schools through outreach activities. The role will provide expert advice on training standards and workforce development, embedding priorities from the IBMS, HEIW and UKAS ISO standards into practice, and promoting a culture of improvement, lifelong learning, and professional excellence.

The post holder will support data collection of agreed metrics for the project, while advancing innovation in learning delivery through digital tools and collaborative approaches.
