Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide clinical expertise to the Advanced Therapies Wales (ATW) programme Clinical Expert Forum to support the goals of the Delivery Plan for Advanced Therapies in Wales 2025-2029, and the Midland Wales Advanced Therapy Treatment Centre (MWATTC) Phase 2 programme.
The post holder will have the opportunity to develop and provide clinical expertise spanning across two national programmes. This includes exposure and opportunities to influence the direction of adopting advanced therapies to deliver to the Welsh patient population and at a UK wide level.
This post is a funded sessional time (a maximum of 0.2 WTE) post for one year until 31st March 2026 due to funding. You must ensure that you have the permission from your current executive medical director prior to applying for this post.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of the ATW and MWATTC Clinical Lead, the National Speciality Lead for Advanced Therapies in the Clinical Academic Setting will provide clinical expertise for the delivery of advanced therapies. This includes consideration to developments in the translational and clinical research sector to inform likely developments now and in the future. Along with the required responses from organisations to enable the delivery of these therapies. Where required the role will directly advise the Advanced Therapies Wales Programme and also be expected to represent ATW at Welsh and UK wide national forums. This role is essential in supporting national initiatives that require clinical expertise on behalf of Wales, ensuring that the country remains at the forefront of advanced therapy developments.
The National Speciality Lead for Advanced Therapies in the Clinical Academic Setting will report to the ATW and MWATTC clinical lead. The Speciality Lead for Advanced Therapies in the Clinical Academic Setting Speciality will contribute to the ATW Expert Clinical Forum, led by the Clinical Lead, to share sector intelligence and inform programme delivery against the Delivery Plan for Advanced Therapies in Wales.

Essential criteria
- Proven ability to think and act strategically and articulate a clear sense of direction and vision

Desirable criteria
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- The successful candidate will be currently working at consultant level with experience related to the role
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Evidence of leadership development
Desirable criteria
- Recent clinical experience of directly working in or influencing the adoption of advanced therapies
