Project Manager - Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care

Band 6

Job overview

Secondment until 31st March 2026

This post is being offered for a fixed term period. Applications from any NHS employees (excluding those employed by independent contractors) will be considered only as a secondment opportunity. In this case, all NHS employees must have their line manager’s approval before making an application.

This post is for a secondment period. It may be extended or made permanent at the end of that period depending on available funding and business requirement, but there is no guarantee of continued employment in HEIW.

If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

An opportunity has risen for two Project Managers to join the HEIW National Programmes team, to lead and manage specific projects within the Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care

This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of primary care services in Wales through strategic workforce planning and project management. If you are a proactive and experienced project manager with a passion for healthcare improvement, we encourage you to apply.

To find out more about the role and to have an informal chat please contact Aideen Evans, Primary Care Workforce Plan Implementation Lead.

Main duties of the job

The National Programmes Team at HEIW acts as a bridge between HEIW and national programme functions, including primary care, planned care, cancer and diagnostics, urgent and emergency care, and genomics. We lead on service-based strategic workforce plans in partnership with NHS Executive National Strategic programmes. Our team brings in expertise from various professions and HEIW functions, supporting the coordination and alignment of HEIW's work with national priorities.

These project manager roles will be working to support the implementation of year two of the Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care, which is busy, high volume workstream. The roles will suit an organised person with an eye for detail. Reporting to the Strategic Workforce Plan for Primary Care Implementation lead you will be adept at managing, supporting and consulting on projects. You will already have experience in project management methodologies and a background in managing complex projects.
