Job overview

Transforming Access to Medicines is an NHS Wales programme to set up a shared Pharmacy Technical Service for Wales.  As part of this programme we are looking to recruit production operatives to support the transition of the existing service to the new model.  The successful candidates will be placed into IP5 where they will be integrated into the staffing structure and will be trained in the aseptic preparation of medicines and will work within specialist cleanroom facilities.  NHS Wales prepares a range of products including injectable SACT, intravenous nutrition, radiopharmaceuticals and other CIVAs products and your experience and training will vary depending on to which unit you are assigned.

Main duties of the job

This post has been established to support an existing Production unit in Wales to support the Transforming Access to Medicines (TrAMs) Programme.  As part of that team you will be involved in preparing ready to use injectable medicines for a wide range of patients including medicines used on Intensive Care Units, Nuclear Medicine and those used in cancer treatments.

All work will be undertaken in specialist clean room facilities operated under strict regulatory standards. We are looking for people with good manipulation skills and an understanding of aseptic technique. This may be experience within pharmacy services or transferable skills gained in other areas of practice.

Understand and adhere to all safety guidance and disposal legislation, particularly in relation to COSHH and HSE requirements, handling of cytotoxic and/or radioactive products and use and disposal of sharps and other pharmaceutical waste

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
