Job overview
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board seeks to recruit a highly motivated Salaried General Practitioners (GPs) who will be part of the multi-professional team delivering high quality, compassionate care to the people of Cardiff and South Wales based at University Hospital Llandough.
This is an opportunity to join the Gastroenterology service as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Consultants, Clinical Endoscopists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and experienced and well-established nursing and administrative teams.
The post holder will engage with the Clinical Director and other members of the team to support the provision of safe, appropriate clinical care. The Salaried GP role will provide direct clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment to patients, including all aspects of urgent and routine presentations with escalation of care and referral on to other services as determined by priority and severity.
Main duties of the job
The primary duties of the post are to provide GP consultations to patients including diagnosis, treatment and referrals, prescribing in line with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Medicines Management guidelines health education as appropriate, administrative duties associated with the care of patients and maintenance of accurate patient records using paper and electronic systems used in the service.
This post sits within the Gastroenterology Department which forms part of Medicine Clinical Board. The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Medical Director and managerially accountable to the Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine and Medicine Clinical Board Director.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or recognised equivalent
- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
- Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice / Certificate Confirming Eligibility for General Practice Registration (CEGPR), or equivalent
- Included on Welsh Medical Performers List
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions)
- MRCGP
Experience
Essential criteria
- Four years full-time postgraduate training (or part-time equivalent), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty or equivalent experience/competencies
- Vocational GP training
- Experience in primary care
Desirable criteria
- Assessment of emergencies
