Job overview
The post holder will contribute to and advise on the development and implementation of oral/public health improvement programmes and support structures. These may include Designed to Smile Child Oral Health Improvement Programme (WHC/2017/23) or Gwên am Byth Improving Oral Health for Older People Living in Care Homes.
To deliver comprehensive oral health promotion training for a range of education and healthcare professionals, community groups and individuals across Cardiff and Vale.
As a member of the Oral Health Education team you will be asked to undertake a range of duties which will include application of Fluoride varnish in a non-clinical setting
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Oral Health Improvement Practitioner within the Designed to Smile Team, which forms part of The Community Dental Service.
We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic and positive, with excellent communication skills. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate the ability to work both as part of a team and autonomously across different sites with in Cardiff and Vale.
The successful candidate will work as a team taking ownership and responsibility in delivering Designed to Smile National Oral Health Promotion, training and support programme for Wales. The aim of the programme is improve the oral health of children in Wales.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the programme and have an active role in Designed to Smile, and at times maybe required to work clinical sessions.
As well as a dynamic, friendly working environment we offer a full induction programme and an individual personal development plan to guide your development within the role.
The post holder will be based at Treforest and form part of the Designed to Smile team, you will be required to travel across Cardiff and Vale, and further afield as necessary.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Qualified and registered DCP, Certificate in Oral Health Education or a post graduate teaching certificate
Desirable criteria
- Qualification in Fluoride Varnish application. Food and nutrition.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Expereience of Oral Health promotion, post DCP qualification, Exprerience of working in the dental sector.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in leading or managing teams
Skills
Essential criteria
- Proven IT skills, Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to priorotise, Presentation skills, ability to work auntonomously as part of a team
Special knowledge

- Knowledge of National and local oral health statistics
