Day Crisis Worker

Band 4

WHO WE ARE:

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is one of the largest Integrated Health Board in the UK, employing over 16,000 staff and providing over 100 specialist services. Serving a population of around 500,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, we are focussed on the health and care needs of our local population whilst also working with our partners to develop regional services. Together we are committed to improving health outcomes for everyone and to delivering excellent care and support.

Our mission is “Living Well, Caring Well, Working Together”. We have recently refreshed our strategy, Shaping Our Future Wellbeing, which sets out the Health Board’s Vision for improving the health and wellbeing of the populations we serve by 2035 through the delivery of our strategic objectives; Putting People First, Providing Outstanding Quality, Delivering in the Right Places, and Acting for the Future. We have challenging times ahead, but we are confident that by tackling these challenges together, we can support people to live healthier lives and reduce the unfair differences in the prevalence of illness and health outcomes we see in our communities today. We aspire to deliver outstanding care and treatment for people when they need it, where they need it; care that compares well with the best in the world, but to do so, we need to transform how we deliver services over the next decade and beyond.

We are a values-driven organisation and out goals will only be realised if our values are at the heart of everything we do. Created by colleagues, patients and their families and carers, our values are:

·         We are kind and caring

·         We are respectful

·         We have trust and integrity

·         We take personal responsibility

OUR REGION:

Wales has much to offer with miles of stunning coastline, UNESCO world heritage sites and beautiful countryside. Cardiff, the thriving Welsh capital, has something for everyone. It is a fantastic city to live and work in with an abundance of sports, arts and cultural attractions. Situated to the west of Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan offers a combination of beautiful Welsh countryside and a dramatic natural coastline, as well as charming towns including Penarth and Cowbridge. Those seeking more culture may find themselves drawn to the National Museum, St Fagan’s Museum of Welsh Life or the Millennium Centre, home of the Welsh National Opera. Whether city life or rural living, Cardiff and the Vale offers the best of both worlds.

Job overview

Make a Difference When It Matters Most

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and motivated Crisis Worker to join Ynys Saff Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). As a regional NHS service for South East Wales, we play a vital role in supporting individuals who have experienced sexual violence and abuse, helping them access the care and assistance they need.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in someone's journey towards safety, recovery, and empowerment. As a Crisis Worker, you will be one of the first professionals that clients encounter following a traumatic experience, offering immediate emotional support, practical guidance, advocacy, and reassurance during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support adults, young people, and families who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. You will guide individuals through the forensic medical process and provide information, support, and advice to those who wish to self-refer to the SARC, ensuring they feel heard, respected, and empowered to make informed choices.

Why Join Us?

This is more than a job. It is an opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable individuals in your community.

Main duties of the job

As a Crisis Worker, you will:

  • Provide immediate emotional and practical support to individuals accessing the SARC.
  • Ensure clients understand their options and can make informed decisions about their care and next steps.
  • Coordinate referrals and provide access to specialist support services.
  • Advocate for clients and help them navigate the process.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding processes.
  • Participate in a rota that provides responsive support to people when they need it most 24 hours of the day 365 days of the year
  • Have excellent communication skills with our partner agencies
  • Be able to complete a full forensic clean of the area to standards which meet ISO 15189 Forensic Accreditation Standards

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for individuals who are:

  • Empathetic, non-judgemental, and committed to supporting survivors of sexual violence.
  • Skilled communicators with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Able to remain calm and professional in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Passionate about delivering person-centred, trauma-informed care.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team.

Whether you have experience in crisis intervention, advocacy,  safeguarding, social care, victim support, mental health services, or a related field, we would love to hear from you.

Every contact matters. Every conversation can make a difference. Every survivor deserves to be heard.
