Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking to appoint a Consultant in Anaesthetics to join the established team at Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth. This post offers the opportunity to develop a sustainable consultant role within a supportive department, while benefitting from an excellent work–life balance in West Wales.

Bronglais General Hospital provides acute services to Ceredigion and surrounding areas and plays a key role in the delivery of planned and unscheduled care. The Anaesthetics department is central to the hospital’s surgical and critical care services and is actively involved in service development and future planning.

We welcome applications from motivated consultants who are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and who wish to contribute to the ongoing development of anaesthetic services within Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with consultant colleagues, the post holder will provide a comprehensive anaesthesia service for general, orthopaedic, gynaecological, obstetric and ophthalmic surgery, covering both elective and urgent activity.

Theatre sessions are available across a variety of specialties and will be agreed with the successful applicant, taking into account service requirements and individual sub-specialty interests.

The department operates a fully flexible consultant rota, including elective theatre lists, urgent surgery and trauma lists, and daytime ICU sessions. Consultants provide resident on-call cover for theatres and ICU during both day and night periods, supported by a second on-call consultant from home, seven days a week.

On-call duties attract a band 3 supplement and are provided on a rolling rota specific to Bronglais General Hospital.
