Job overview

Applications are invited from  enthusiastic and motivated HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists to work within the Biochemistry section of the Blood Sciences Department at Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth.

There is a full time (37.5 hours per week) position in the Biochemistry section. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in multi-disciplinary training progression and skill mix development within Blood Sciences.

The department operates a contractual shift pattern supporting Round the Clock Services, and out of hours working on the Biochemistry rota will be part of this role.

Main duties of the job

The modern, open-plan laboratory provides acute and routine primary and secondary care services in Biochemistry, Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion.

The Biochemistry section is currently equipped with Roche cobas Pro analysers.  The section is also equipped with pre-analytics, a Tosoh G8, a micro-osmometer and a Radiometer ABL90.

The special chemistry section also carries out Faecal calprotectin testing via ELISA.  

The individual should possess the IBMS Specialist portfolio and sufficient post registration experience to undertake a specialist role within the Biochemistry Section. 

The successful candidate will be expected to effectively communicate information, advice, instruction and professional opinion to colleagues and Pathology Service users in both primary and secondary care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • Hons. degree in Biomedical Science/Life Science
  • Specialist Diploma or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Knowledge of Pathology Quality Assurance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Prior experience as a Registered Biomedical Scientist
  • Indepth knowledge of complex laboratory instrumentation
  • Technical ability to troubleshoot, repair, advise or provide in-depth information relevant to speciality

Language Skills
