Are you looking for a new challenge and interested in playing a key role in supporting the implementation of the digital strategy within Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDUHB)?

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a crucial role in clinical leadership, combining clinical expertise with information technology to transform services, streamline healthcare processes and enhance patient care and safety.  

The implementation and optimisation of digital clinical systems, including e-Flow, e-Obs, and Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (ePMA) will transform care delivery, improving efficiency and safety. You will play a key role in leading the planning of staff engagement, provision of multi-professional training and support all staff groups—before, during, and after implementation. They will also be expected to actively promote digital engagement and inclusion across the organisation and promote the benefits of digital working.

 

Main duties of the job

The Informatics Clinical Health Care Specialist will assist the Lead Nurse for Informatics in implementing the project of digitalising clinical records across the health board. They will also contribute to delivery of the other strategic goals of the corporate team.

The principal object of the post is to assist in the modernisation of health service delivery, using information technology to improve access to clinical information and knowledge to enhance shared decision making regarding patient care. This will involve closely working with the Lead Informatics Nurse and a team of Informatics Health Care Professionals as well as liaising with the national project team (Digital Health Care Wales). The postholder will be an experienced health care professional assisting with decision making, planning and implementation of the project.

This role involves intensive periods of work, particularly during ‘go live’ phases. The ability to work clinical shift patterns over a 7-day/24-hour period is essential. The post holder must also demonstrate flexibility to meet service needs and be able to travel regularly across all Health Board sites.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

Qualifications and Knoweldge

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC or HCPC Registration
  • PGCE or equivalent experience
  • Educated to Master’s level, or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of quality Improvement methodologies and application to practice
  • Extensive knowledge and experience/understanding of collaborative practice
  • Understanding of mentorship / clinical supervision / reflective practice / coaching
  • Knowledge of the research process
Desirable criteria
  • Postregistration facilitation course
  • Current NMC Registration as Teacher or Associate Teacher

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post-registration experience including experience in a management / leadership role
  • Evidence of previous contributions towards developing clinical practice
  • Experience of teaching and delivering educational programmes
  • Experience of conducting clinical audit and using measurable outcomes to inform practice development
  • Ability to critically analyse audit /research and apply to practice setting
  • A detailed understanding of IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a facilitator role
  • Experience of developing and undertaking research projects
  • Publication of Academic Papers/ dissemination of practice developments
