Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join the Application Support team as a Digital Product Specialist has arisen.

The post-holder will take responsibility for a range of digital software applications, supporting them through their life-cycle. The candidate will be a part of the Application Support Team, working in collaboration with Application Support Specialists in order to provide high quality support and advice to users of key digital systems, across Hywel Dda University Health Board.

The role suits a dynamic and reliable individual, who is capable of working independently or as part of a team. The candidate must possess good written and verbal communication skills , as well as be able to meet deadlines.

The post holder will be responsible for the following:

Assessing and describing the business benefits of the product, ensuring requirements are in line with the business needs of the Health Board.

Maintaining a good technical understanding of the product.

Actively promoting the product’s benefits and implementation plan.

Main duties of the job

Providing expert technical knowledge related to the development of 
the product.

Management and coordination of any product system downtime across the Health Board.

Ensuring software releases are properly scheduled and are completed on time.

Assessing the impact and implications of any incidents and events, and reporting as appropriate.

Responsible for the effective use of the product, providing user support and offering expert system advice.

Communication and engagement with users on understanding requirements and workflow processes to design, develop and implement the product.

Becoming the Health Board lead on the product and working closely with other product specialists to ensure links between other systems 
and products are made.

Responsible for providing and developing expert system administration procedures for the product.

Developing product related policies and procedures.

Working with colleagues to develop training and support materials, as well as setting out training content. 

Ensuring that appropriate system configuration is maintained.

Managing all elements of the product testing – including the preparation of test plans and scripts, undertaking and/or supervising the testing exercise.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

  • Educated to postgraduate diploma level in an appropriate Digital or Technical subject or have equivalent demonstrable level of knowledge & experience
  • Experience of training and communicating with a range of individuals/teams within the healthcare environment

  • Experience of using project management methodology
