The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Job overview

We are seeking a proactive and highly organised individual to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and their medical team. This role involves managing sensitive patient records, coordinating communications with healthcare professionals and patients, and maintaining clinical documentation with discretion and accuracy. You will also be responsible for coordinating Emergency Department rotas across multiple staff groups and handling associated administrative tasks.

This is a pivotal role requiring excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Main duties of the job

Provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative support service to the Consultant and designated medical staff and their teams. 

Be responsible for maintaining records, both manually and on a computer system and demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive and confidential patient information i.e. clinical letters, investigations and results. 

Act as the first point of contact for all methods of communication on behalf of the Consultant and his/ her medical team from GP’s, patients and relatives, Consultants and other Hospitals.

Be responsible for the coordination and maintenance of the Emergency 
Department rotas across multiple staff groups and any associated 
administration tasks.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • RSA/OCR III or equivalent demonstrable experience of typing plus experience of a full range of duties working in an administrative / office environment
