Job overview

The department of General Surgery is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated F1 trust doctor to join a dynamic and friendly team. The post is based at Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen with some agreed sessions at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.  The post is fixed term for 12 months and is full time. The F1 trust doctor is part of the resident on-call rota for the emergency general surgery pathway at Glangwili Hospital. 

The successful candidate will, with senior colleagues provide, quality surgical services to the community, including the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

Previous NHS experience, the willingness to learn and develop whilst promoting evidence-based clinical health care are essential for this post.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to support the surgical registrars in assisting and managing surgical patients being admitted through both emergency and elective pathways, monitoring and assessing patients during their pre and post operative hospital stay. 

The candidate will be able to assist in both the main theatre and day theatre, gaining a good exposure to a range of surgical procedures. The post is based at Glangwili Hospital and there will also be an expectation to support the elective surgical pathway at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. 

There will be an expectation to participate in the on-call rota at Glangwili Hospital, covering emergency surgical admissions to A&E and providing care to surgical inpatients within the hospital.

The successful candidate will form part of a clinical team working closely with other members in the specialty. 

There is also an expectation to participate in regular audits and research, to promote evidence-based clinical practice.

47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers.

Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services.
