The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Job overview

Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking to recruit a Project Manager - Business Support within the Public Health Directorate on a permanent basis.

The successful applicant will project manage various projects within the Directorate but will be a key member of the 24/7 project.  

Applicants should as a minimum be educated to post graduate degree level or equivalent experience and have project management experience. 

Interviews will be held in person at Hafren Derwen, St. David’s Park, Carmarthen and the successful candidate will be expected to work from the office once a week or as required.

Main duties of the job

This role  will provide project management delivery within distinct projects for the Public Health Directorate project leads.

Successful candidates should have a proactive approach to solving problems. They should also have effective communication skills and be able to build good working relationships. Proven experience at managerial level and experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team is also essential. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree level qualification in related field or relevant experience
  • Silver IQT/CIP or equivalent improvement methodology qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development equivalent to Post Grad diploma level
  • Knowledge of current NHS performance and service improvement initiatives and targets
  • Understanding of model for improvement, process redesign and change management
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages in particular MS Planner / Project, MS Teams, Sharepoint
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies
  • Bronze IQT

Experience

  • Experience of working within the NHS
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience of training and staff support in development.
