Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Respiratory Nurse Specialist to provide compassionate leadership for the team of respiratory nurses based at Glangwili General Hospital.

They must be able to show motivation and passion for respiratory care as well as having high level of skills to support both the clinical and managerial aspects of supporting the clinical team at Glangwili General Hospital and with the wider respiratory team within Hywel Dda. In line with Health Board policies we are happy to consider alternatives to a full time post if it meets with the service needs.

Main duties of the job

Main duties will include holding a clinical caseload which may include a negotiable sub-speciality within an out patient setting. Must be able to demonstrate the use and promotion of evidence based interventions to promote health, independence and self management, adherence to treatments, diagnostic interventions and signposting to key services/interventions.

Support the acute services and teams within the hospital to manage a variety of respiratory conditions (acute NIV, COPD, asthma) as well as input into training and service development.  Support the initiation of timely interventions to promote patient flow and a safe discharge.

Lead in undertaking clinical audit and action results to complete the audit cycle. Support the development of clinical research within the team. Link with the wider respiratory team within Hywel Dda to work towards being a single integrated team. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • NMC Registration
  • Master’s level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Qualifications in asthma and COPD
  • Teaching qualification
  • Qualification in Non-Medical Prescribing or willing to undertake.
  • Leadership and management accredited course
  • Evidence of content of key current national or international guidelines.
Desirable criteria
  • Other respiratory diploma or degree level qualifications ARTP, or similar accredited, Practical and Interpretation Spirometry certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working in an area with COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis, Motor neurone disease patients
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluating services.
  • Experience of teaching other disciplines.
  • Experience of presenting to a range of audiences.
  • Evidence of the use of asthma action plans
  • Experience of ordering and interpreting investigations/tests. Managing patients needing acute CPAP
  • Managing patients using acute and home based non invasive ventilation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading a clinical team
  • Involvement in change management.
  • Evidence of assisting in the planning and developing of services
  • Published work.
  • Experience of undertaking audits, writing reports and presenting audit outcomes to other health professionals
