Job overview

We are looking for motivated, skilled and compassionate individuals to join our Nurse Bank as Nursing Support Workers, working across our four hospitals and within community settings in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Positions are available in:

  •    Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth
  •   Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen
  •   Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli
  •   Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest
  •   Mental Health Services

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a ward-based team, you will assist in the delivery of high‑quality nursing care while maintaining a professional and compassionate approach at all times.

The post holder will work alongside ward-based nursing staff and will be responsible for carrying out a range of delegated tasks involving both direct and indirect patient care. All duties will be undertaken in support of, and under the supervision of, a Registered Nurse.

This is an evolving role based upon a flexible core competency framework, which will support your development and ensure you have the necessary skills to practise safely and effectively. The role is clearly linked to minimum training requirements designed to build your competence and confidence.

Following completion of the required training and achievement of core competencies, you will be expected to deliver a range of basic nursing duties, ensuring that patients are treated with dignity, privacy and respect at all times. You will carry out these duties as part of the wider team and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; however, both English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
  • Experience of working within the NHS.

Language skills

  • Welsh speaker (Level 1)
