Job overview

We are seeking individuals to join our bank Radiography team within the Radiology department in Hywel Dda University Health Board.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced, skilled practitioner who is adaptable, well-organised and capable of demonstrating strong leadership qualities.

The 4 main Radiology departments in Hywel Dda University Health Board have benefited from substantial Welsh government investment over the last three years.

Much of the equipment is brand new with further planned upgrades in the near future. 

There are opportunities for bank work in a number of modalities (including CT, MRI, NM, General), this will be dependent on candidate experience. 

Main duties of the job

As Radiographer you will be responsible for delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging while supporting the day-to-day operational management of the department. The role includes prioritising and coordinating workloads, supervising and mentoring junior staff and students, ensuring compliance with radiation safety and governance standards, participating in quality improvement activities, and contributing to service development.

You will be able to demonstrate advanced clinical decision-making, provide leadership during shifts, support multidisciplinary working, and may participate in out-of-hours services to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS  healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary,  community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities 
services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in 
    Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 99 
    community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BSc Diagnostic Imaging (or equivalent).
  • HCPC registered Diagnostic Radiographer
  • Significant post graduate experience of working independently as a diagnostic radiographer
  • Understanding of the role of a Band 6 diagnostic radiographer, and how this differs to that of a Band 5 position
Desirable criteria
  • CPD portfolio

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced in delivering a broad range of high quality imaging examinations and procedures over a variety of imaging modalities.
  • Experience of using radiology IT and PACS systems to record and review patient specific information.
  • Experienced in using a variety of techniques to motivate and encourage patients and trainees.

Language Skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language Skills levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.

Other

Essential criteria
  • Satisfactory Standard/Enhanced DBS clearance including an/a Adults and Childrens Barred List check
  • Able to travel between sites in a timely manner to support service delivery needs as required
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the service, which may require working unsocial hours, weekend work, or on-call systems
