Job overview

There is a rare opportunity to join the well established Health Improvement Nutrition & Dietetic team in Hywel Dda University Health Board.  We are looking for an experienced dietitian who is passionate about the role of nutrition in the prevention of diet related disease.  

You will be the key dietitian delivering health improvement nutrition interventions based in the beautiful area of Pembrokeshire whilst working closely and across the wider health board Health Improvement and Nutrition & Dietetics teams.  

Experience of public health nutrition interventions is desirable and experience of delivering Nutrition skills for Life will be beneficial.  You will be expected to work in partnership across the 3 counties, collaborate with stakeholders and be driven to improve population health through food for health and wellbeing.  

Group facilitation along with project delivery experience will be essential to this role.  Excellent organisational, time management and communication will be required to meet demands of this position.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be the dietitian dedicated to providing the evidenced based nutrition steer within Pembrokeshire.  This will involve:

  • Developing, delivering and evaluating accredited nutrition education and training to key community assets; and enabling the role out of level 1 Nutrition Skills for Life courses including quality assurance.
  • Being an expert nutrition resource for the health board, partners and communities.
  • Quality assurance of nutrition interventions.
  • Working autonomously to identify, develop, deliver, and evaluate projects both locally and nationally.
  • Leading on project delivery.
  • Reporting on activity and outcomes.
  • Service development and quality improvement.
  • Providing cover and support to the Health Improvement Nutrition & Dietetic team.
  • Supervision and mentoring of staff and dietetic students

Knowledge and experience of delivering nutrition interventions across the life stages e.g. pregnancy, pre school will be desirable for the role.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of current HCPC registration.
  • Degree, or post graduate qualification in dietetics leading to registration.
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association or covered by professional indemnity insurance.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of, and ability to apply, evidence base in relation to dietetic practice and development of practice.
  • Critical appraisal skills: knowledge of current and emerging evidence base, national and professional policy, guidance and best practice in the delivery and development of broad spectrum of adult dietetics
  • Well established clinical problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrates effective organisational skills including prioritisation of workload, effective caseload management and delegation of tasks
  • Well established teaching and presentation skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of relevant specialist interest groups.
  • Attendance at relevant accredited courses/conferences.
  • Level 2 Award in Food Hygiene or working towards this.
  • Agored Cymru Assessor training.
  • Level 3 Accrediation in education and training.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstratable and considerable experience in clinical dietetics.
  • Experience of teaching health care professionals and staff of other organisations.
  • Evidence of involvement in development work in dietetic services e.g. audit, implementing a change in practice, delivering a new dietetic intervention
  • Experience of clinical audit, evaluation and service improvement.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivering Agored Cymru accredited training.
  • Experience of paediatric dietetics
  • Experience of public health dietetics.
  • Experience of adult teaching using a range of teaching methods.
  • Experience of delivering practical skill based education e.g. cooking sessions.
  • Experience of delegating work to and supporting / supervising D.A. / students / junior dietetic staff.
  • Experience of service change.
  • Experience of research.
  • Experience of delivering project work using recognised service improvement methodology
