Job overview

The Mechanical Team Leader will be part of a team ensuring that mechanical/electrical/building equipment and services are maintained to an appropriate standard and to support clinical service departments in their prime task of treating patients.

The appointed individual will support the site operational management staff with the day to day operational engineering maintenance of boilers, steam systems, medical gases, heating, hot water, buildings, etc. The position requires participation in an  on-call rota.

 

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

To provide a safe, comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Ensuring all essential services are maintained to support clinical departments in their task of treating patients, whilst ensuring all statutory legislation is complied with.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 99 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 vocational qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline (or equivalent), plus evidence of relevant on the job training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of heating, ventilation, water, drainage, and pressure systems
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work
  • Understanding of HTMs, SHTMs, and statutory compliance
Desirable criteria
  • Additional specialist or supervisory qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience working with mechanical building services
  • Proven experience in fault diagnosis and mechanical repair
  • Experience of supervising or supporting other staff
  • Experience working safely within complex environments
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within NHS or healthcare estates
  • Experience of Medical Gas Pipeline Systems

  • Participation in on-call rota
  • Ability to travel between multiple Health Board sites
